Website Design for Engineering Companies in South Africa

We design websites for South African engineering firms, industrial suppliers and fabricators that do what your brochure can't: show engineers exactly what you can do, give procurement the credentials they need, and make your capabilities clear enough for ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews to recommend you. Built for SEO and AI search from day one.

Who Reads an Engineering Company's Website

An industrial website is read by several people with different questions — and now by software working on their behalf. A good engineering website answers all of them without a phone call.

Engineers and technical specialists

They want to know exactly what you can do: the equipment you work on, sizes, pressure ratings and materials, the standards you work to, and evidence that you have solved problems like theirs before.

Procurement and vendor management

They check whether you can be added to the vendor list: B-BBEE level, Central Supplier Database registration for public-sector work, ISO certification, insurance, and who to contact for a quotation.

Plant managers and compliance officers

They care about risk: safety record, response times, breakdown and call-out support, where your offices are, and whether your work meets the regulations their site is audited against.

AI assistants doing the shortlisting

Increasingly, one of those people asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Overviews for a shortlist first. The assistant can only recommend you if your site states your capabilities and credentials clearly enough to quote.

What an Engineering Website Needs to Win Work

An engineering company website needs a page for each service or product line, the industries you serve, your certifications and registrations, project case studies, equipment and capacities, lead times, a downloadable company profile and your office locations. Together they let the site work as a capability statement, a vendor-registration pack and a sales tool at once.

01

A capability page for every service and product line

One page per service — not one long "Services" page — with scope, typical applications, equipment and materials handled, relevant standards and a short project example. These are the pages that rank and get quoted.

02

Industries served

Mining, power generation, petrochemical, water treatment, manufacturing — name the sectors you work in and what you do for each, so buyers and AI assistants can match you to their industry.

03

Credentials in one obvious place

ISO certification, B-BBEE level, CSD registration, professional registrations and memberships, with issue dates. Buyers should not have to email you to find out whether you qualify.

04

Project case studies with specifics

Client sector, location, scope, constraints and outcome. "Refurbished 40 high-pressure valves during a planned shutdown" is quotable; "we deliver quality solutions" is not.

05

Equipment, capacities and lead times

Workshop capabilities, sizes and ratings you can handle, typical turnaround and whether you offer emergency call-outs. These are exactly the details buyers ask AI assistants about.

06

A downloadable company profile

A current PDF with your capability statement, certificates and contacts that procurement can attach to a vendor application — plus an RFQ form and WhatsApp for fast enquiries.

07

Offices, regions and contact people

Every branch with its address and phone number, the regions each one serves, and named contacts. Consistent details across your site and Google Business Profile help both Maps and AI assistants.

08

Fast, glove-friendly mobile pages

Your buyers check suppliers from site offices and plant floors on their phones. Pages must load quickly on patchy connections, with large touch targets and phone numbers that dial with one tap.

Credentials Buyers Check — and How to Show Them

Procurement teams screen suppliers on a handful of credentials before anyone reads your case studies, and AI assistants answer questions like "which fabricators are ISO 9001 certified" from the same information. Show the ones that apply to you, clearly and with dates. Not every credential applies to every firm: CSD registration matters for public-sector work, for example, not for private industrial clients.

Credential What it is How to show it on your site
ISO 9001 The international standard for quality management systems. State the standard and version (for example ISO 9001:2015), the scope of certification and the certifying body. Many large buyers and tenders ask for it.
B-BBEE status level Your Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment level, which feeds into your clients' own procurement scorecards. Show your current level and certificate expiry date, and offer the certificate on request or in your company profile.
Central Supplier Database (CSD) National Treasury's register of suppliers to organs of state. If you supply government, municipalities or state-owned companies, say that you are CSD-registered and include your supplier number in your company profile.
ECSA registration Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa — Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng, Pr Techni Eng or Pr Cert Eng. Name your registered people and their categories on your team or about page. It is a strong expertise signal for people and AI systems alike.
Pressure Equipment Regulations and SANS 347 The regulations and standard that govern the design, manufacture, repair and inspection of pressure equipment in South Africa. Only relevant if you work on pressure equipment. If you do, explain which categories of work you are equipped and approved to carry out.

Anatomy of a Capability Page

Capability pages are the pages that win work — one per service or product line. Here is how we structure one, using valve refurbishment as an example.

01

A plain-language summary

Two or three sentences that say exactly what the service is, who it is for and where you offer it — for example, on-site and workshop refurbishment of gate, globe, ball and control valves for power, petrochemical and mining plants across Southern Africa.

02

Scope and specifications

The equipment types, sizes, pressure classes and materials you handle, and what is included — stripping, inspection, machining, testing and certification — so an engineer can tell in seconds whether you fit.

03

Industries and applications

Where the service is typically used and the problems it solves in each industry, written so that both a plant manager and an AI assistant can match it to their situation.

04

Standards, credentials and people

The standards the work is carried out to, the certifications that apply and the registered professionals who sign it off.

05

Process, turnaround and call-outs

How a job runs from enquiry to hand-over, typical turnaround for planned work, and whether you offer emergency or shutdown support.

06

A real project example and a clear next step

One short case with sector, location and scope, followed by an RFQ form, a WhatsApp button and a named contact for the service.

How AI Assistants Shortlist Engineering Suppliers

Questions buyers ask AI

  • "Who refurbishes large industrial valves near Secunda?"
  • "Which fabricators in Gauteng are ISO 9001 certified?"
  • "Find a pump repair company with a 24-hour breakdown service in Mpumalanga."
  • "Which engineering suppliers have offices in both South Africa and Mozambique?"

What makes you quotable

  • Capability pages that name the equipment, sizes and standards
  • Credentials stated in text, not only in logos and scanned certificates
  • Offices and regions in consistent, structured data
  • Project examples with sector, location and scope
  • Pages AI crawlers can read without running JavaScript

Case Study: Enserve Engineering

Enserve Engineering Services has supplied valve solutions to power, petrochemical, mining and water clients since 1993, from five offices across Southern Africa. They are ISO 9001:2015 certified and B-BBEE Level 4 — but their old website did not reflect that. We built a 12-page site that gives each of their six services and three product lines its own page, speaks separately to technical engineers, procurement teams and compliance officers, and puts certifications where buyers look for them. Touch targets are sized at 48px for people using phones on site, often with gloves on, and pages are served from Cloudflare's edge network with a 0.565-second time to first byte.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a website for an engineering company cost in South Africa?

Our SEO and AI search-ready engineering websites start from R25,000, with a fixed quote per phase. If your current site is sound, a GEO upgrade starts from R12,500. Across the wider South African market, custom business websites range from about R15,000 to R60,000 or more depending on the number of pages and features.

What should an engineering company capability statement include?

Your core services and product lines, the industries you serve, equipment and capacities, relevant standards and certifications, key personnel and registrations, office locations, and two or three short project examples. On a website, each service should also have its own page so it can rank and be quoted on its own.

Should we publish our B-BBEE level and CSD registration on our website?

Publishing your B-BBEE level, its expiry date and the fact that you are CSD-registered saves procurement teams time and helps you get shortlisted. Many suppliers keep the full certificates and supplier numbers in a downloadable company profile or share them on request rather than on the page itself.

How do AI assistants decide which engineering supplier to recommend?

They draw on sources they can read and trust: your website, directories, your Google Business Profile, news and industry mentions. Suppliers whose sites clearly state what they do, where they work, which standards they meet and which projects they have delivered are far easier to recommend than those with vague, image-heavy sites.

Can you improve our existing website instead of building a new one?

Yes. If your current site can be edited and is not built entirely in JavaScript, a GEO upgrade adds structured data, fixes crawler access, rewrites key capability pages and improves speed. The free AI visibility check tells us which option makes sense before you commit to anything.

Do you work with engineering firms outside Gauteng?

Yes. We are based in Johannesburg and work remotely with firms across South Africa. Enserve Engineering, for example, is headquartered in Sasolburg and has five offices across Southern Africa, each represented on its website.
