SEO + GEO Websites

SEO & AI Search-Ready Website Design in South Africa

We build websites for engineering firms, contractors and trades that rank on Google and get cited by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. Search and AI readiness is built into the site from day one — not bolted on later with an open-ended monthly retainer.

What Is an SEO & AI Search-Ready Website?

An SEO and AI search-ready website is built so that both search engines and AI assistants can find it, read it, trust it and quote it. Traditional SEO gets your pages ranked in Google's list of links. Generative engine optimisation (GEO) makes your business easy for tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews to cite when they answer a buyer's question. In practice that means complete server-rendered pages, structured data that describes your business, crawler access you have chosen deliberately, and content that answers real questions clearly enough to be quoted.

Why It Matters Now

Why Does AI Search Matter for Your Business Now?

Buyers increasingly ask an AI assistant to shortlist suppliers before they open a single website. The assistant reads your site on their behalf — or it can't, and recommends someone else.

Cloudflare, which carries a large share of the world's web traffic, reported in 2026 that bots now make more than half of the web requests on its network. Before generative AI, bots were roughly a fifth of that traffic, mostly search-engine crawlers. Cloudflare's CEO, Matthew Prince, has explained why: where a person researching a purchase might visit five websites, an AI agent doing the same job can visit thousands. He predicts that within five years, bot traffic could outnumber human traffic a thousand to one (The MAD Podcast, June 2026).

AI systems also read far more than they send back. In July 2025, Cloudflare measured Anthropic's crawlers reading roughly 38,000 pages for every visitor they referred to a website (Cloudflare). When the assistant answers the question itself, the click matters less than whether your business is the one it names. For an engineering firm or contractor, one recommendation that turns into a contract can be worth many times the cost of the website.

SEO vs GEO: What's the Difference?

They are not competing strategies. GEO builds on good SEO — which is why it belongs in the website itself, not only in a marketing retainer.

Who Are SEO & AI Search-Ready Websites Built For?

We focus on businesses where one new client is worth far more than the website — and where buyers research carefully before they call.

Who we work with

  • Engineering firms and technical consultancies
  • Industrial suppliers, fabricators and maintenance specialists
  • Construction companies and contractors
  • Specialist trades — electrical, plumbing, solar, HVAC, renovations
  • Professional service firms that win work on expertise

What your buyers ask AI

  • "Who refurbishes industrial valves in Gauteng?"
  • "Which contractors near Durban do full home renovations?"
  • "Is this company certified for this type of work?"
  • "What does a job like this usually cost, and how long does it take?"
  • "Which suppliers have done similar projects before?"

Our own client work reflects this focus: an industrial valve specialist with offices across Africa (Enserve Engineering) and a Durban renovation contractor (RLD Interiors). See what we build for engineering firms and for contractors and trades.

If your website doesn't answer questions like these clearly, an AI assistant has nothing to quote — so it quotes a competitor, a directory or nobody at all.

The Checklist

What Is Included in an AI Search-Ready Website?

These are the technical foundations that decide whether search engines and AI assistants can use your website at all. Every build includes all nine; every upgrade starts with the ones you're missing.

01

Server-Rendered HTML

Every page is delivered as complete HTML. Many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so content that only appears after scripts load can be invisible to them. Our sites put the full text, headings and prices in the first response.

02

Structured Data That Describes Your Business

Linked JSON-LD for your company, services, projects, people and service areas tells search engines and AI systems exactly who you are, what you do and where you work — instead of leaving them to guess.

03

A Deliberate AI Crawler Policy

Search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot feed AI answers; training crawlers such as GPTBot feed model training. We configure robots.txt so you choose which to allow, rather than blocking everything and disappearing from AI search.

04

Answer-First Service Pages

Buyers ask AI tools specific questions: certifications, capacities, lead times, areas served, typical costs. We write service pages that answer those questions in clear, self-contained passages an AI system can quote accurately.

05

Consistent Entity and Trust Signals

The same business name, contact details and service areas across your site, Google Business Profile and directory listings, linked from your structured data. Named people, real projects and verifiable reviews give AI systems reasons to trust you.

06

Speed on Mobile Data

Static pages served from a global edge network load quickly on a site foreman's phone and cost crawlers little to read. We target Lighthouse 90+ and keep pages light for South African mobile networks.

07

Security by Default

HTTPS everywhere, security headers, no plugin sprawl and a minimal attack surface. Fewer moving parts means fewer vulnerabilities to patch and nothing for automated scanners to exploit.

08

Sitemaps, Freshness and llms.txt

An XML sitemap with real last-modified dates helps crawlers find updates. We also add an llms.txt summary for AI tools that read it — useful, but optional, and not something Google uses for ranking.

09

Measurement You Can See

Google Search Console, analytics that separate visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and periodic checks of how AI assistants answer the questions your buyers ask — so you know whether you are being cited.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is GEO (generative engine optimisation)?

GEO, or generative engine optimisation, is the practice of making your business easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google's AI Overviews to find, understand and cite when they answer a buyer's question. Traditional SEO aims to get your pages ranked in a list of links. GEO aims to get your business named or quoted inside the answer itself, which is increasingly where buyers stop reading. It builds on the same foundations as good SEO: pages that crawlers can read without running JavaScript, structured data that describes your company, services and service areas, fast and secure hosting, and consistent business details across the web. On top of that, GEO needs content written so that a specific question, such as which firms in Gauteng refurbish industrial valves, has a clear and self-contained answer on your site that an AI system can quote accurately. For an engineering firm or contractor, that answer is often the difference between being shortlisted and being ignored.

What is the difference between SEO and GEO?

SEO helps your pages rank in Google's results so that people click through to your website, while GEO helps AI systems choose your business as a source when they write an answer. The two are not competing strategies. Both depend on the same technical foundations: fast, crawlable, server-rendered pages, valid structured data, secure hosting and content that is genuinely useful. The difference lies in how content is written and how success is measured. SEO rewards relevance, links and page experience, and is measured in rankings, clicks and enquiries. GEO rewards clear facts, specific answers and consistent business information across trusted sources, and is measured in citations, mentions and referrals from AI tools. In practice, a page written to be quoted by an AI assistant usually ranks well in Google too, because it answers the question directly. That is why we build both into the website itself rather than treating GEO as a separate monthly service.

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and you should be wary of anyone who says they can. AI assistants decide for themselves what to cite, and their answers change as their models, sources and indexes are updated. Nobody outside those companies controls the output. What we can guarantee is the work we control: every page readable by search and AI crawlers, structured data that validates without errors, fast load times on mobile networks, and service pages that clearly answer the questions your buyers actually ask. We also record a baseline of how the major assistants describe your business before we start, so that any change can be measured honestly rather than guessed at. Those foundations give your business the best possible chance of being cited, and they are the same foundations that help you rank in Google. If a provider promises a specific AI placement or a guaranteed recommendation, ask them to explain exactly how they control it.

Do I need a new website, or can you upgrade my current one?

Often an upgrade is enough, and it is where many engineering and trades businesses should start. If your current site can be edited and is not built entirely in JavaScript, we can add structured data, fix crawler access in robots.txt, rewrite the key service pages so they answer buyer questions directly, and improve speed and security, all for a fraction of the cost of a rebuild. Our GEO upgrade for an existing website starts from R12,500, with a fixed quote after the free check. A new SEO and AI search-ready website starts from R25,000 and makes sense when the existing site is slow, insecure, hard to edit, or built on a platform that hides content from crawlers. The free AI visibility check tells us which option is right for you before you spend anything, and we will recommend the cheaper route whenever it will get the job done.

How long does it take to see results?

Technical fixes are picked up as soon as search engines and AI crawlers revisit your pages, which usually takes days to a few weeks. Google Search Console and a submitted sitemap help speed that up. Rankings and AI citations take longer because they depend on competition in your field and on how much trustworthy information about your business exists online, both on your own site and on third-party sources such as your Google Business Profile, directories and reviews. Most businesses should expect gradual improvement over several months rather than an overnight change. A site that has never had structured data or answer-first content often sees the first movement quickly, simply because it is finally readable. We record a baseline of how AI assistants describe your business at launch and check it again over time, so you can see what has changed rather than taking our word for it.

Does this work for engineering firms and trades?

Yes, it works especially well for engineering firms, contractors and specialist trades. Buyers of these services ask detailed questions before they make contact: which standards a firm is certified to, what capacities it can handle, which areas it serves, what lead times look like and what a typical job costs. AI assistants look for sources that answer those questions precisely, and many competitors in these sectors publish thin, generic websites that say very little. A business that publishes its capabilities, certifications, service areas and real project examples clearly is far easier for an assistant to recommend. Our own client work reflects this focus, including an industrial valve specialist with offices across Africa and a Durban renovation contractor. The founding client programme is aimed at this market too: our next five engineering or trades clients receive 20% off in exchange for a case study, a Google review and shared results.

What does the free AI visibility check include?

The free AI visibility check tests how the major AI assistants currently answer the questions your buyers would ask, and whether your website can be read at all. We put 10 to 15 buyer questions to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews, note whether and how your business appears, and compare that with the competitors that do get named. We then check your robots.txt and crawler access, review your structured data and business details, and look at page speed on mobile. You receive a one-page scorecard with the three fixes that would make the biggest difference, whether or not you decide to work with us. The quickest way to start is the free AI Visibility Scorecard on our site, which takes about two minutes and gives you an instant score. If you prefer, request the check using the form on this page and we will prepare it for you.

What happens when Google or the AI assistants change how they work?

They will change, and regularly, which is exactly why we build on foundations that every search engine and AI system relies on rather than on tricks aimed at one tool. Those foundations are pages that crawlers can read without JavaScript, structured data that describes your business accurately, fast and secure hosting, consistent business details across the web, and specific, trustworthy answers to the questions buyers really ask. When an assistant changes how it selects sources, sites built this way tend to keep their visibility because they remain the clearest and most verifiable source available. Shortcuts built around one platform's current behaviour rarely survive its next update. Clients on monthly SEO and GEO care, from R7,500 per month, get a review whenever a major change affects their visibility, along with a monthly report on search performance and AI citations for the questions that matter to their business.

What is the founding client programme?

The founding client programme gives our next five engineering or trades clients 20% off a website build, GEO upgrade or audit. In exchange, you agree to three things: a published case study on our website, an honest Google review once the work is done, and permission to share your before-and-after results, such as how AI assistants described your business before and after the project. It is how we build public proof quickly while giving early clients a better price on the same work. The discount applies to the standard prices on this page: the R6,500 SEO and GEO audit, GEO upgrades from R12,500 and new websites from R25,000. There is no lock-in and no requirement to take monthly care afterwards. If you would like to be considered, tick the founding client box on the free check form or mention it when you contact us on WhatsApp.
